>
funding of graduate medical education
Situation: In 1997, representatives of ten teaching
hospitals, eight medical schools and the state hospital association
came together to assess the current method of funding graduate medical
education. They sought to develop an alternative approach that insured
financial stability for hospitals, offered training opportunities
for resident physicians, and continued to provide quality medical
care for citizens of the state.
Result: Working with Cambridge Hill Partners, the
committee was able to reach agreement and submit a joint proposal
to the state budget office. To achieve this result, member groups
had to work through competing needs and disparate perspectives on
the issues.
